The NUST School of Chemical and Materials Engineering (SCME) hosted its Open House 2024 on May 9th, 2024. The event saw the presence of notable figures including Distinguished Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Shuja, Principals and Directors from various constituent Schools/Institutes of NUST, alongside guests from industry, faculty members, and students.
The school takes pride in continuing the tradition of nurturing talent that has long been synonymous with SCME. According to the QS ranking, both the Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering departments have secured the top spot in Pakistan within their respective disciplines. Graduates from the School continue to excel in diverse industries both domestically and internationally.
The industrial sector has been instrumental in the growth of SCME, providing support in various forms such as R&D projects, internships, industrial visits, advisory boards, and student placements. The school welcomed guests from leading companies during the Open House 2024, including Fatima Fertilizer, Dynea Chemicals, Philip Morris International, Fauji Fertilizer, Fauji Cement, Qarshi Industries, PepsiCo, Abyss Solutions, Bestway Cement, Wah Nobel Chemicals, Agri Tech, Chenab Foundries, Qadri Group of Industries, Forward Sports, Pakistan Accumulators Limited, Millat Equipment, and HIT. Special appreciation goes to Assoc Professor Dr Iftikhar Salarzai and his team members to organize the event in befitting manner. A total of 38 delegates from industry participated in the event. Mr Sajjad Raheem, Manager Industrial Linkages SCME, played an instrumental role in facilitating effective communication with the industrial partners.
Industry professionals evaluated the Final Year Design Projects and conducted interviews with the graduating batch of students. This year, a total of 125 students presented their projects. Additionally, five panels comprising industrial experts were formed to conduct interviews with the students. Fatima Fertilizer group representatives have shown keen interest in signing an MoU with SCME for long term engagement in internship program as well as research projects at UG and PG level.
